If, like me, you though that iMovie was going to be able to be used on your iPad 1 and you were severely disappointed to see that it was being limited to the upcoming iPad 2 only, then this tutorial is for you. German site Fscklog has discovered that you can bypass the install checks that determine which device you’re trying to install an app onto using the iPhone Configuration Utility provided by Apple. If you’re an iPad 1 user that wants to install iMovie now, read on for the full tutorial.
First you’ll need the iPhone Configuration Utility which you can grab here for Windows and here for Mac. This is a utility provided free of charge by Apple to IT professionals that need to provision a particular set of apps, settings and security protocols onto iDevices for corporate use. It has other neat uses as well though, which we’ve explored a bit in the past. This time we’re going to use it to sideload the iMovie.app package onto your iPad 1.
First, purchase or update iMovie in your copy of iTunes, ensuring that you have the latest version available.
Next, plug in your iPad and open the iPhone Configuration Utility.
In the left hand column click on Applications and find iMovie in your Apps folder. It’s in your Music>iTunes>Mobile Applications folder on a Mac or similar spot on a PC.
Once it’s added to your Applications, click on your iPad in the left column and find iMovie in that list. Click install.
Once it’s finished installing, unplug your iPad and start using iMovie!

Hey very nice blog!!
I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy that I found this during my hunt for something regarding this.
