During the iPad 2 event, there was a brief section in which they addressed the iOS 4.3 update that will be coming pre-installed on the iPad 2 and will be available for other iOS devices on it’s launch date of March 11th. Among the same information that we’ve had for some time were some nice new kernels of information including some fantastic news about iTunes Home Sharing.

If you’re unfamiliar with the new features that iOS 4.3 will bring I suggest that you check out our iOS 4.3 walkthrough and feature roundup or the other various articles that we’ve posted about the new software update. Beyond those features we already knew were some new bits however. First and foremost was the fact that iTunes Home Sharing would be enabled on the iPad 2 on iOS 4.3. This means that you will be able to access your entire library of music, movies and TV shows from iTunes without having to sync it first. This is a big deal because it means that if you’re on WiFi and WiFi only for now, you don’t have to pick and choose which songs or movies you sync. While being limited to WiFi for now isn’t ideal, it does show some promise for a future where we’ll be able to do this over a cellular connection as well.

If we were to get access to iTHS over 3G or, in the future, LTE, this would effectively eliminate the need to sync your media to your iDevices at all. If you were traveling out of a coverage area or wanted to conserve data you could sync but otherwise you would have access to any of the media you owned at any time. Very cool stuff this and most likely what Apple has in mind for the future of the MobileMe platform. I should note that they referred to iTunes Home Sharing in reference to the iPad 2 specifically but in the same breath mentioned that iOS 4.3 would be coming to the AT&T iPhone 4, the iPad and the iPod touch 3G and 4G. Interestingly enough the Verizon iPhone was left out of this group, but more on that later.

In addition to iTunes Home Sharing we also got confirmation that some of the features of the beta like Airplay for Safari that supports audio as well as video and the Personal Hotspot for AT&T customers would indeed be there in the final version. It was also briefly mentioned that Photo Booth would be coming to ‘iOS Devices’. We’re assuming this means iPhone 4 and perhaps iPod touch 3/4G, no word on iPhone 3GS but I would doubt it.
