Review: Agent 18 FlowerVest for iPad

The Agent 18 FlowerVest is a silicon case for the iPad that doesn’t offer much in the way of drop or bounce protection, but it is pretty and it feels good in the hand.

The unit that I reviewed was purple with a large white flower on the back, it is, in my wife’s words…cute. The material is the same slick silicon finish that the iPhone case from Agent 18 that I reviewed recently was made out of. It’s very pleasant to the touch and seems like it would wear well over time. The top rim seemed a little thin to me as I was playing with it, until I got it onto the iPad and saw that thin was good in this case.

The edge overlap is fairly large, it covers almost half of the bezel of the iPad. This makes it safe to lay face down if you need to for some reason without having a large, thick ridge along the edge, which most cases do. The overlap does make it a bit of a tight fit getting on but it also makes it less likely to bow out at the edges like a lot of iPad cases do because the edge is so long. It never felt as if it was slipping while I was holding it in one hand.

The flower on the back has a die-cut feel, it’s very well colored and shows no sloppiness around the edges of the emboss. The flower is raised about 1/16 of an inch above the surface of the back, so it’s not completely flat. This can result in the iPad tipping away from you (or towards you) when laid on a flat surface to type, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend this case for people that tend to lay the iPad flat to type. The flower also makes it difficult to hold say flat on the palm of your left hand while typing with your right for instance.

The ports and dock connector are kept very clear and I had no issues getting the case to dock or connecting an iPad cable to the bottom. The headphone jack was also readily accessible. The Agent 18 logo is relatively unobtrusive along the bottom of the case, which is nice, as big logos of accessory manufacturers are on the bottom of my decorations list for my cases.

The FlowerVest is another solid silicon type case from Agent 18, it’s cute and fun without being too flashy and feels good in the hand. It’s definitely not for one-handed typers or people that need a case that’s stable for typing while resting the iPad on a flat surface, but it’s very comfortable for laying in your lap or holding and stays low profile despite the embossed design. Definitely worth  a buy for someone looking for a colorful and different silicon case that’s not just a solid color or blah black.

The FlowerVest iPad cases come in several colors and retail for $39.99 on Agent 18’s site.
