I’m addicted to Instapaper and I’m a hoarder of articles. I save tons of great stuff that I want to real later but don’t have the time to by tapping my bookmark and watching for the notice that it’s been saved to Instapaper’s servers for me to read later. This means though that I can’t store them on my bookshelf in iBooks to snag and read like any other book. Until now…*cue dramatic chipmunk*
To save any full web article for transfer to iBooks (via iTunes) on a Mac here’s what you need to do:
- Create an alias of the iTunes application. To do so, browse to your /Applications folder in Finder and right-click on the iTunes app icon. Choose ‘Make Alias’ from the menu list that pops up. This creates a shortcut to the iTunes app.
- Move the newly created Alias to the ~/Library/PDF Services folder. That’s located in the root directory of your hard disk.
- Now you’re ready to save a web page for use in iBooks. Browse to any web page you want to save in this way.
- Click on the File Menu in your browser and choose the ‘Print’ item in the menu.
- In the Print dialog that pops up, click on the PDF button at the lower left, and then choose ‘iTunes’ from the drop-down that appears. This will make a PDF of the article and automatically move it to iTunes for you.
- Open the iTunes app and click on the Books in the left pane, your article will be located there.
- You can modify the title and other details listed for the web article by right-clicking on its entry in the Library and clicking on the Info tab, then edit it.
- Just sync the article over to your iPad the next time you connect it and read away in iBooks
