    Based on studies, the sense of smell connects to the oldest part of the brain responsible for functions which are not controlled by will or logic. These contain instincts, emotions and creativity, and autonomic functions such as memory, heartbeat, body temperature, appetite and digestion.

    We know we won’t achieve it in every case, but the worst possible outcome is that the child learns lots of useful life skills. The fact that most youngsters will still not recover from autism does not mean they do not deserve a shot at getting the best treatment possible and learning essentially the most they can.
